Girlfriend Collective Review

I originally got a pair of Girlfriend Collective leggings when they did the “only pay shipping” campaign a long time ago.  I wasn’t sure if it was legit, but my friend had ordered some, so I decided to as well. I was pleasantly surprised when a pair of leggings actually showed up at my door.  At the time, they only offered black leggings, but have since come out with a wide variety of colors and different lengths of leggings. If you read my Favorite Leggings post I mentioned that I wanted to try them out a bit more, and I finally did! I recently purchased a few items that I had been wanting, especially because they came out with sports bras and tanks, tees, etc. recently. I’m actually wearing the tank top as I write this.

The really interesting thing about Girlfriend Collective is that all their clothing is made from recycled water bottles. The leggings and bras are made from #1 recyclable plastic and turned into fabric at their facility in Taiwan. The clothing is then made in Vietnam. You can read more about their process HERE. I think it’s pretty cool that they are helping reuse plastic to something useful. I wonder what they will do if the world finally stops using so much plastic?!

The other cool thing about Girlfriend Collective is that their clothing comes in sizes XXS-XXXL. This is a great range of clothing compared to most companies. Everyone wants and has the right to be able to wear cute activewear!

Here’s what I ordered (I actually made two orders because I originally purchased a sports bra in the wrong size):

  • Midnight Paloma Bra (MD no idea how I ordered a medium)
  • Pebble Topanga Bra (SM)
  • Pebble Girlfriend High-Rise 3/4 Leggings (SM)
  • Dusty Rose Celia Tank Top (SM)
  • Indigo Paloma Bra (XS) (reordered in correct size)
  • Indigo Girlfriend High-Rise Leggings (SM)

The items came package in a recyclable cardboard package. Inside was a reusable “bag” that had all of my items inside it. The packaging is somewhat impressive.  The tags are very nice as well, and they are pinned into the seams of the clothing. I’m thinking I can use the bags as shoe bags for when I travel for work. So what did I think? I was a little disappointed in a few items, and pleasantly surprised with others.

Midnight Paloma Bra (MD no idea what I got a medium)/ Indigo Paloma Bra (XS) – The medium sized bra was way to big and looked pretty ridiculous, but the xs felt great and looked a lot better (I could actually review it with the correct size). The one thing I dislike about this bra is that there are no cup pads. This might not be an issue for some people, but I really prefer that my sports bras have a little padding, or at least a place to put a little padding. I do like that it’s a little longer. Other than that, it’s a standard sports bra.

Pebble Topanga Bra (SM) – This bra is the same as the Paloma one with no place for padding. It’s fine, I’m very picky about my sports bras so I felt that both of them were unfortunately a little disappointing to me. Just to be clear, I knew before purchasing that there was no padding, but I still wanted to try the bras and give my honest opinion.

Pebble Girlfriend High-Rise 3/4 Leggings (SM) – I thought I would like the 3/4 length, but I felt like it hit me in a weird spot. I’m 5′-5″ tall so I’m pretty average, maybe it’s just that I’m not used to that length. Looking back at these pictures though, these look pretty good! The fabric is really soft, just like my original leggings, and they are quite comfortable. They are a little thicker and might be better for winder months than 100 degree summer months. The pebble color is also NOT squat proof, so that was disappointing.

Dusty Rose Celia Tank Top (SM) – I actually really love this tank top.  I feel like it can go from gym to street wear very easily, and it looks just as good with leggings as it does with jeans. It definitely shows sweat though, so be careful wearing it outside the gym if you tend to sweat a lot! Their website says that the tank runs small and to size up depending on how you want it to fit. I would say it fit somewhat true to size, but I got the small instead of xsmall just to be safe. The fabric is quite soft and comfortable, and if I make another purchase I’ll probably buy another!

Indigo Girlfriend High-Rise Leggings (SM) – These are the same leggings that I originally received from the company, however they are in the indigo color.  I decided to get the standard length after the 3/4 length disappointment. These are great leggings and in the darker color they are squat proof.
