5 Facts of the week – April 9th

Coming at you this week with some interesting stories and some interesting facts. I post these because I love learning random new things.

  1. A very interesting story about the gender wage gap this week.  A Federal court ruled on Monday that a women can’t be paid less than men for doing the same job regardless of past salaries.  Read it for yourself and see what you think. Gender Wage Gap
  2. This fact is coming at you from REI.  “The average American spends 95% of their life indoors.”  Wow, reading that makes our lives seem really sad. I know I spend a lot of time inside, especially since I sit at a desk or in meetings all day. There is good news for us, REI has come up with a list of 95 ways for us to get outside and spend more time in the sunshine (with sunscreen of course)! This is part of their #optoutside mission to get more people outside the confines of our offices and homes.  Take a look at their list and choose at least one this week and get outside! REI’s List of 95 Ways to Spend More Time Outside
  3. Here’s an article from the Wall Street Journal that discussed why some people get sick less often than other people. The article makes some good points based on some good studies.  However, whether you get sick or not is going to depend on soooo many things.  I don’t think there will ever be a solid reason why one person gets a cold vs another person.  However, it’s worth reading. Why Do Some People Get Sick Less Often? – WSJ
  4. For the Grilled Cheese lovers out there, this website has a list of the best grilled cheese in every state.  I can’t verify if it’s the best or not, so take it with a grain of salt.  I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a grilled cheese, but I remember as a kid we would get them with tomato soup for lunch at school.  I think my tastes have changed a little and now I prefer a little higher quality ingredients.  It’s still delicious no matter how you make it.  “The Best” is subject to opinion, what I might like, won’t necessarily be what you like (speaking of…here is a  Cauliflower Grilled Cheese recipe). What do you think? Is this the best in YOUR state? Best Grilled Cheese in Every State
  5. Well, it’s spring time, and that means it’s 70 degrees one day and snowing two days later. To make us all feel better about the current cold spell.  Here’s a random fact for you The coldest temperature ever officially recorded was -89.2°C (-128.6°F) in Antarctica in July of 1983! I’m glad I’ve never experienced that!
