5 Facts of the Week – April 1st

There were some pretty interesting things to learn about this week. Check out my top 5 below!

  1. There are floating villages in Cambodia that house Vietnamese Immigrants.  It’s really a good read. NY Times Floating Villages
  2. Have you ever noticed that birds sometimes stand on one foot? It snowed here last Sunday, and I was sitting at a stop light on my way to work and saw this fat little bird walk a few steps then stand on one leg, then walk a few steps, and stand on one leg.  I wondered, why do they do this. So I googled it.  It has to do with birds losing heat, and staying warm when it’s cold out. This helps them stay warmer, pretty cool actually!
  3. Apparently, in Turkey, when a squirrel loses its arms in a trap, it’s given prosthetic wheels. You can’t make this stuff up. Go check it out for yourself. Squirrel Gets Prosthetic Wheels
  4. There was apparently a 65 foot tall lava bubble in Hawaii in October of 1969.  The United States Geological Survey (USGS) released the image as a “throwback thursday.” Very interesting. Lava Dome
  5. Today (April 7th) is National Beer Day, so go out and enjoy a cold one or learn a little more about the day! National Beer Day
