5 Reasons You Should Pick Up A Jump Rope

I don’t really remember jumping rope much as a kid. I know I had one of those jump ropes that had the plastic beads that alternated between red and white. When I picked up jumping rope a few years ago I learned that it is an entirely different world.

Here are my top 5 reasons you, yes you, should pick up a jumprope and see what it’s all about.

  1. It’s actually really fun! There are so many crazy tricks out there to learn. There are a ton of jump rope coaches on Instagram and on Youtube that can help you learn these fun new tricks too!
  2. It is the BEST form of cardio. Nothing gets my heart rate up as quickly as jumping rope. Nothing. If you’re looking to lose weight, or just build up your cardiovascular stamina, jump rope is a great way to do that! I’d recommend starting with 30 seconds on 30 seconds off or some sort of interval like that if you’re just starting out. You can thank me later.
  3. It’s low impact compared to many other forms of cardio. I know a lot of people think that jump rope can’t possibly be low impact, but you don’t need to be flinging yourself into the air. You really only need to jump high enough to let the rope pass between your feet and the ground.
  4. It’s insanely portable. Want to jump inside, let’s hope you have room, you can! Want to go outside and jump? No problem! Take it to the gym, take it when you travel, keep it in your car, there’s nothing easier to transport than a jump rope.
  5. It’s relatively affordable. You don’t have to spend $100 to get started. Personally my favorite rope is $15, that’s it!
